Lyrics
for Leigh's CD
" Eclectic Chanteuse"
Don't know why I let you make me cry
Don't know how I came to weep these bitter tears
You said you'd never leave me -- but then, you did deceive me
Nothing left to do but cry a million years
I don't know who would wait like this for you
I must be a little bit out of my mind
You said you'd never hurt me -- but then you did desert me
Nothing left to do but cry a million years
It's over, can't you see?
Clouds raining down
Blue covers me
The talk is it's all over, all over town
Don't know when I'll kiss your lips again
Moon is waning, tide is rushing out to sea
You once said you loved me -- swore by stars above me
Nothing left to do but cry a million years
CRY A MILLION YEARS

CRUISIN' FOR A BLUESIN'
Got outta my bed, laced up my shoes
Radio playin' Muddy Waters' "Walkin' Blues"
An' it feels so good! It feels alright!
I'm cruisin' for a bluesin' tonight
Put on my hat, walked out the door
BB King's "Caldonia" on my Walkman once more
An' it feels so good! It feels alright!
I'm cruisin' for a bluesin' tonight
Koko Taylor, T-Bone Walker, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray
Chicago to St. Louis, Kansas City to LA
Memphis down to New Orleans, 'n down to Frisco Bay
I need that blues connection every day
Hopped in my car, turn on the gas
Playin' Albert Collins an' I'm drivin' real fast
An' it feels so good! It feels alright!
I'm cruisin' for a bluesin' tonight
Rollin' down the road, four-on-the-floor
On my CD player, Etta James' voice roars
An' it feels so good! It feels alright!
I'm cruisin' for a bluesin' tonight

SONNET # 155 ("Fallin' in Love")
I'm fallin' in love, my temperature's risin'
Fallin' in love, or maybe you knew
Might be the moonlight makin' me crazy
But it might be his kisses, oh, what can I do?
I'm fallin' in love, feelin' so delicious
Dizzy from dancin' an' walkin' on air
I gotta lotta yearnin', burnin' inside me
Time and space meltin', an' I don't care
Blame it on the night,
blame it on the moon
blame it on the stars above
Blame it on the bossa nova,
put the blame on Mame, boys
or put the blame on love!
I'm fallin' in love, dreamin' of his kisses
Fallin' deeper every time his eyes meet mine
It's quicksand, fire, seduction an' desire
Got me goin' crazy, but it feels so fine
Fallin' in love, fallin' in love
Fallin', fallin', fallin', fallin'
Oo-oo-ooh, I'm fallin' in love!
(c.) Leigh Harrison 1984
I go walking on diamond sands
Evening breezes blowing from distant lands
But my heart is lonely on this island shore
My aloha baby, don't you love me no more?
The silver moon shines on the shimmering sea
There's golden moonbeams, but not for me
Alone I cry, it's you I'm cryin' for
My aloha baby, don't you love me no more?
Don't you need me baby, like I need you
Remember nights of starlight and skies of blue --
When our dreams were sunny and our hearts were true?
Don't you need me baby, like I need you?
REPEAT BRIDGE
Don't you love me baby, like I still love you?
On a windswept beach, 'neath the sheltering palms
Where once I held you, safe in my arms
Can't hide these teardrops, from one that I adore
My aloha baby, don't you love me no more?
Aloha baby, don't you love me no more?
Aloha baby, don't you love me no more?
Aloha baby, don't you love me no more?
MY ALOHA BABY
(c.) Leigh Harrison & Bobby Perfect, 1993
All of my life I have seen love come winging to others
I've spent lonely nights while romance claimed my sisters and brothers
Oh, how the winds fly
While I remain silent, alone with the tears in my eyes
And off in the distance, doves soar beyond the Sierras
Here in my room I have reached for tomorrow and wept
While others have sailed into destiny, conquered and slept
Oh, how the winds fly
But all I possess is the remnants of stars in my eyes
And off in the distance, doves soar beyond the Sierras
Oh, as they sail in the sky
My heart is a galleon, carried on high
Oh, as they wind through the trees
My soul's like a violin swept on a wandering breeze
Here in the dark, I still long for the sweet kiss of moonlight
But in my confusion, I clutch at the cobwebs of night
Oh, how the winds fly
Yet I've only harvested all of the tears that I've cried
And off in the distance, doves soar beyond the Sierras
BEYOND THE SIERRAS

Lonely comes to greet me, each mornin' when I rise
Stays with me all day, and never puts on a disguise
He doesn't have an equal -- a book without a sequel
An anchorman who brings me down with nothin' but bad news
We are on a first name basis...
I ain't no stranger to the blues
Heartache is a tenant who moved in when you went
Now Sadness is my landlord and I do not have the rent
My closest friends are Sorry, Pain, 'n' Tears an' Worry
Who go thru dreams o' thumbtack schemes without a pair of shoes
Y' know, I feel like Vincent Van Gogh
I ain't no stranger to the blues
Regret -- my portion's double, an' now it's time to pay
My love life's in deep trouble, sinkin' deeper every day
My plan's a busted bubble, my heart's a pile o' rubble
Feel like some dead-end highway -- I'm so tired
Depressed an' goin' nowhere, but round an' round an' round
I am so low that I have got to look up to see down
In the lottery of love, I know what it's like to lose
I'm like some dumb detective that just can't find any clues
Can you help me, Dr. Watson?
I ain't no stranger to the blues
I AIN'T NO STRANGER TO THE BLUES
(c.) Jay (Byrd) Marino, 1984
Time isn't clocks, isn't calendar leaves, tossed on a desert-dry wind
Time is the space that we find in our lives, who knows how such parting begins
But you mustn't think I won't need you, to patch up my heart that's in ruins
I'll need you ever and always, except for once in a blue, blue moon
Nights aren't velvet and stardust, unless you are here with me
Now nights are a lonely parade of dreams, and longing as deep as the sea
But you needn't ask if I'll miss you, since you can't return too soon
I'll think of you every moment except for once in a blue, blue moon
Somewhere stars sparkle...out over the sea
The moon's just a sliver...of ivory
Memories are all I'll be keeping, if I need to make a new start
But that's all I'll need on a cold, wayward night,
for your smile still warms up my heart
But don't think that I won't remember this love that has ended too soon
I'll never, ever forget you, except for once in a blue, blue moon
ONCE IN A BLUE, BLUE MOON
(c.) Leigh Harrison 1992
On a bright, late summer morning, when we dwelt in naive peace
And the roar of a jet, no nightmare, and the clouds were ivory fleece
Against a blue sky daydream, gold burnished New York town
Spattered silver lit the towers, bronze leaves swirled all around
Then explosions ripped the skyline to an endless, silent scream
With a bloom of dead grey roses, in a plot beyond obscene
On the day when the wind blew southward, and the dying did not cease
And the hopes of the world lay burning -- death was their last release
And the architect's dream-like vision of glass and stone renowned
Fell with a gasping shudder, its steel shoulders on the ground
With a cloud of fiery fuel and smoke, cement in smithereens
And that bloom of dead grey roses, in an ashen mise-en-scene
In a moment, a strange new paradigm -- the terror's afterpiece
Four jets that morphed to bombers on a blood-red centerpiece
And the volunteers who gave their lives -- our royalty uncrowned --
Lay by hundreds 'neath the rubble of that poignant burial ground
Till the images were burned into my brain, off a TV screen
In a bloom of dead grey roses, on that morning unforeseen
GREY ROSES
(c.) Leigh Harrison 2001
Lonely river reaches for the sea
Calmly waiting for the night to be
When twilight stars shine through the hour
And blazing skies reveal their power
Till silent breezes follow endlessly
The winds of night drift slowly through the green
Creating peaceful harmonies of dream
The chimes of life ring the night
While songbirds chant their songs of flight,
Blend vibrantly soft melodies supreme
The cold chill of the wind cannot disguise
The warmth that's found in evening's soothing sighs
The rolling hills seem so serene
While whispering winds weave in-between
Princely mountain peaks which pierce the skies
And all these tranquil treasures bring to mind
Night, it seems, can freeze the paths of time
But night must pass, as all things do
When morning light comes bursting through
And all my footsteps I must leave behind
I'll think of golden sunbeams all ablaze
And try to hide my fears of future days
When I must wander once again
Among the senseless deeds of men
Who'll never think to cast aside their ways
CHIMES OF LIFE
(c.) Arty Williams & Barry Sternlieb, 1966
I can wait for the mornin' to watch the sun rise
Wait for my birthday, to get a big surprise
I can wait for the weekend, to get my pay
Wait for the evening news, at the end of day
But I can't wait, can't wait to love you
No, I can't wait, can't wait to love you
I can wait for the bus to drive on over the hill
Wait for my sugar daddy to name me in his will
I can wait till summer roses begin to bloom
Wait till the knife and fork meet up with the spoon
But I can't wait, can't wait to love you
No, I can't wait, can't wait to love you
You know impatience is a matter of time
And clocks just keep ticking away
But if you're insinuatin' that I should be waitin'
Baby, I just don't think I can wait another day
I can wait till the band begins to play a new tune
Wait till they put another man on the moon
Wait for the honey from the honeybee
Wait for 'most anything, but for you to be with me
And I can't wait, I can't wait to love you
I can't wait, I can't wait to love you
CAN'T WAIT TO LOVE YOU
(c.) Leigh Harrison 1999
My baby says he loves me -- oh, how that man does lie!
My baby says he loves me -- but, how that man does lie
I know all he wants is a taste of my shoo fly pie
He says he wants to love me, wants to love me all night long
He says he wants to love me, he wants to love me all night long
But it's been my shoo fly pie he's after, all along
I'll turn up the oven, way up high
Plenty I can bake besides shoo fly pie
Come into my kitchen, fix you somethin' hot
Come into my bedroom, give you all I've got
He tells me that he's crazy, for a little lovin' from me
He tells me that he's crazy, for a little lovin' from me
But all he wants is my tasty little recipe
SHOO FLY PIE

Water is heavy silver over stone --
over stone's refusing.
Refusal. It does not fall. It fills. It flows.
Every crevasse, every fault of stone,
every hollow.
River does not run.
River presses its heavy silver self
down into stone
and stone refuses
What runs, swirling and leaping into sun,
is stone's refusal of the river, not the river.
